Video Installation for Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, exhibited at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2011–2013).
Elástico is a site-specific video installation created for Die Neue Sammlung — part of the renowned Pinakothek der Moderne. Directed by Max Mayer. Concept by Max Mayer. The project was commissioned as part of a competition initiated by BMW Group Design and the museum, aiming to foster a dialogue between art and design and to support emerging video artists.
The film explores the poetry of movement — from raw, unrestrained power to fluid elegance — through expressive choreography and colorful linear transformations. Dancers generate ever-changing patterns of color and motion, visually echoing automotive dynamism and artistic form. The piece was projected onto “The Art of Car Design” wall, an architectural installation created in 2002 by BMW Design specifically for the museum.
Elástico was publicly displayed from dusk to midnight on the museum’s exterior facade for over a year, transforming the space into a living, illuminated canvas that merged the worlds of design, motion, and emotion.
This work continues the cultural partnership between BMW Group and Die Neue Sammlung, which has long championed experimental intersections of art, design, and innovation. Other artists who have collaborated with the BMW Group on cultural projects include Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Olafur Eliasson, and Jeff Koons.
The premiere of Elástico took place during Munich’s “Lange Nacht der Museen” on October 15, 2011, and was attended by Prof. Dr. Florian Hufnagl (Director, Die Neue Sammlung), Adrian van Hooydonk (Head of BMW Group Design), and representatives of the University of Television and Film Munich.
